Buddha Belly or flat belly? That is the question!

Are you one of those people who always had a flat belly? Has it grown into Buddha belly proportions as you enjoy more culinary delights or grow older?
So what is the problem?

That is the big question that each one of us must ask ourselves if we are troubled or confused by our tummy condition.
What is really important for you?
You can find many doctrines concerning vanity and flashy tighten your ab videos that will give you the perfect flat belly. Those are not the motivators behind this post. May I suggest that being vibrant and alive in your body mind spirit awarenesses is a personal matter.

Here are a few things to consider when asking yourself the belly questions:
Am I looking outside of myself for approval when it comes to bathing suit donning.
Yoga works on many levels to calm the mind, stretch the body, develop core strength and open my senses but it doesn’t seem to flatten my belly.
There are exercises routines like: Pilates, zumba, aerobics, personal trainers (that will help you train your abs to stand at attention) that usually guarantee to flatten the belly.

How about loving myself enough to accept my body and give it what it needs to feel good.
Beware of the mind and all the thoughts that can loop around endlessly without touching the heart of the matter.
My personal story around Buddha belly goes way back to my adolescent days. I don’t remember ever having a flat belly. I tried everything to get what all the other people had and then around fourteen years old I just gave up.
I found support in those days on the Television screen and my guru was Richard Simmons. Yes, his loving approach to body awareness really softened my hold on wanting the perfect body. I began to just have fun loving myself as I was. I felt best in my body when I was pregnant and my belly had an acceptable excuse to hang out! I’ve had lots of laughter, tears, baggy pants and shirts to hide my Buddha belly over the years.

I guess that’s where my spread knee buddha belly child pose came from. Students always have a good laugh when I invite them to take that pose. Now a days my mantra is to soften my belly and bow to the calm abiding presence that I really am!
